Sculpt an elephant from polymer clay in the style of biomechanics

In this master class I want to show how an ornament is created from polymer clay in a very unusual style - biomechanics.

Appeared biomechanics, as a direction, relatively recently, in the eighties of the last century. Its characteristic feature, as can be understood already from the name, is the connection of the living with the nonliving — mechanical. Creatures in which polymer flesh and mechanics are intricately connected: gears embedded in the body, screws, mechanisms, microcircuits turn carriers into robots, cyborgs.

So, we will need:
1. Polymer clay (any color that you would like to base).
2. The tools are the simplest, usually I use a scalpel in modeling, a pair of knitting needles of different sizes, a needle, toothpicks, synthetic brushes, 2-5 number.

We knead a piece of polymer clay of the desired volume; from the warmth of the hands it becomes softer and more pliable. We give a piece the shape of an elephant's body, pulling the trunk from one side.

From the rolled layers of polymer clay create elements of plating, a kind of metallic coating. In order to make it look more like metal, the corners are made sharper, we all square the layers. In the process of modeling, we smooth all parts with our fingers so as not to leave fingerprints of these very fingers)

When the base is ready, we begin the biomechanical styling.
We attach the texture of the lines with an ordinary needle or a scalpel, create Kock, cracks.
Create an eye - a black circle or oval, which is also covered with rolled polymer clay.

As a decor I use details of a clockwork. They are mounted on a special baked hot melt glue. I useTranslucent Liquid Sculpey - liquid polymer clay, volatile white mass for gluing parts from ordinary polymer clay, a thing that is very necessary in the economy of a polymer manufacturer!

Further - painting: we rub dry a pastel of different flowers. And apply the rubbed powder directly with a dry brush onto the product, rub it in, in some places we add pastel of other colors - this gives the product additional shades.
Toned product is wiped with a damp cloth - toning remains in the shade, but is erased on all convex parts, this gives additional volume and looks a little antique, worn, reveals the texture.
On top you can add, using the same napkin, powder of bronze, silverfish, any metallic, giving the product an even more interesting metallic look.

We finish the finished product with varnish, I used the glossy varnish for yachts Tikkurila Unica Super / Tikkurila Unika Super.
